In another first for the Tour, CIMB Group has signed on as title sponsor for the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, Malaysia, the first-ever event to be sanctioned by the PGA Tour in Southeast Asia. This premier golf tournament will be held October 28-31, 2010 at The MINES Resort & Golf Club in Selangor, Malaysia.

The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic will see a top-class international field of forty players competing for a $6 million prize purse, with $1 million going to the winner. The 40-player field will be made up of the top-25 available players from the PGA Tour's final FedExCup standings and the top-10 available Asian players, with the remaining five slots left to sponsor exemptions – with at least one place reserved for a Malaysian professional which, as announced at the signing ceremony, will be determined through a series of regional CIMB-sponsored tournaments to be played in the four countries in which the company operates – Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. Due to the limited field, there will be no halfway cut for the event, leaving all 40 players will play all four days of golf.

As the home of the Asia Pacific Classic, The MINES Resort & Golf Club is a miracle of nature and man, as only true vision and inspiration could have transformed the world's largest open-cast Hong Fatt tin mine into a golf course like no other. The site carries a rich history dating back to 1909 when tin was a precious metal, demanding lucrative prices and making Malaysia the largest tin producer worldwide. But the mining ceased in 1982, leaving behind an immense stretch of depressions and lakes, which today is home to a breathtaking eighteen-hole golf course which stands in its place. Just to remind everyone of its glorious past, entrances to the old mine shafts still exist, but what really seems to excite the eager golfer is the knowledge that this land, once rich in precious minerals, now coexists as a rich and beautiful monument to golf as well as a natural wonder.
