Bridgestone Invitational Tickets The World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational is a PGA Tour event usually held in late summer each year at Akron's Firestone Country Club. The Firestone Country Club is located on the north side of Akron, and the 54-hole golf course is considered to be among the finest private courses in all of America. The Bridgestone Invitational began in 1962 as a four-man tournament that was known then as the World Series of Golf. Always a popular stop on the PGA Tour, the tournament continued as the NEC World Series of Golf in the 1980s, finally debuting as the Bridgestone Invitational in 1999. All but one Bridgestone Invitational has been played at Firestone Country Club. The Bridgestone Invitational welcomes an approximate field of 75 PGA golfers from around the world. Tiger Woods has been a perennial favorite here, winning seven of the last eleven tournaments, including 2009's grueling playoff victory over Padraig Harrington. After nearly four hours, in a tough battle which Harrington had anticipated, the Irishman let victory slip through his fingertips. Having held a one-stroke lead when he and the game's top-rated player had been put on the clock coming to Firestone's signature par-5 16th hole, he trailed by three when they left and Woods had his seventh Bridgestone Invitational crown well in hand. Harrington refused to make excuses, and no matter how many times or how many ways he was asked he would not blame the fateful triple bogey on the fact that he and Tiger were put on the clock just before they teed off there. He did finally admit to feeling rushed when he hit the drive that went into the right rough to start the disaster, and also the 5-iron he chipped across the fairway into the tall grass on the incline above the left fairway bunker.

 As a result of this swift and shocking turn of events on Firestone's famous 16th, Woods went from one stroke down to a four-shot victory as he finished with a 5-under-par 65 to win the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational. Woods became the first player in PGA Tour history to win seven times on the same course in what was also his 16th victory in the World Golf Championship series and second consecutive win after missing the cut in last year's British Open. There are multiple ways that a player may qualify to play in the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational. These include: being a playing member of the last U.S. and International Presidents Cup teams, being a playing member of the last Ryder Cup team, being among the top 50 ranked players on the Official World Golf Rankings one and two weeks prior to the event, winning a worldwide golf event in the last year with an Official World Golf Rank Strength of at least 100, having been the winner of a selected tournament from the PGA Tour of Australia, the Sunshine Tour, the Asian Tour, or the Japan Golf Tour. Given those qualifications, fans can rest assured that the field for the 2010 World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational will be packed full of the most talented golfers in the world.
