Crowne Plaza Invitational Tickets The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club is a regular stop on the PGA Tour, scheduled to be played in Fort Worth, Texas May 27-30, 2010, and is always a popular ticket on the Tour. Played every May, the Crowne Plaza Invitational is one of four invitational tournaments held on the PGA Tour, and at 64 years is also the longest running PGA event still to be held at its original site. Colonial Country Club announced on July 25, 2006, that Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts had inked a six-year deal to be the title sponsor through 2012, thus replacing Bank of America, which decided not to renew its deal after four years of sponsorship including the tournament's 60th anniversary of play that May. The 2009 purse was $6,200,000, with $1,116,000 going to winner Steve Stricker. Founded by the Colonial National Invitation Tournament in 1946, the event is known for honoring the history of golf by its use of an official Scottish tartan plaid jacket. The jacket is worn by its champions and top committee chairmen. Yet another tradition adding to Colonial history is the beautiful Wall of Champions on the first tee. Engraved with the name and score of each champion dating back to the 1941 U.S. Open, the marble display casts homage over the start of any player's round.

2010 Crowne Plaza Invitational
|
 The Crowne Plaza Invitational is a restricted field event on the PGA Tour, thus only guaranteeing invites to the first 80 players on the previous year's money list. The Invitational also has a unique tradition for the PGA Tour. known as the Champion's Choice invitation, each year a committee of former Colonial champions selects two deserving, and otherwise ineligible, young players to compete in the tournament. A list of notable PGA Tour professionals making their first appearance at Colonial, by way of Champion's Choice selection, includes Al Geiberger, Tom Weiskopf, Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange, Mark O'Meara, Paul Azinger and Davis Love III. Five Champion's Choices have eventually won the tournament, but Dave Stockton is the only Champion's Choice to win the tournament in the year in which he selected (1967). The tournament is unofficially associated with long-time Fort Worth resident Ben Hogan, the winningest Colonial player of all time with five victories (1946-47, 1952-53, 1959), and in 2003 Annika Sorenstam became the first woman to play in a PGA Tour event since Babe Zaharias. With all of its unique tradition and notoriety, the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial is one of the PGA Tour stops any true fan needs to have tickets for come the end of May.
