Honda Classic Tickets Always based in Florida, the Honda Classic has been a regular stop on the PGA Tour since the early 1970s and for almost its entire first ten years in existence it was hosted by Jackie Gleason, one of the greatest actor/comedians ever. Those with tickets for this season's match, played March 4-7, were able to see Camilo Villegas become the 2010 champ and win the $1,008,000 winner's prize money. In 2007 the Honda Classic was moved to the PGA National Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, which is where the tournament still takes place today. In the early days of the Honda Classic, the host course was the East Course at the Inverrary Golf and Country Club in Lauderhill, and included "Inverrary" as part of the tournament's name from 1972 through 1983. Other host courses in Honda Classic history include TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Weston Hills Golf and Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs, and the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens. The Honda Classic debuted on the PGA Tour in 1972 as Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic; Inverrary being the name of the host course. Gleason's name remained part of the title until 1980, and Inverrary until 1983.

 Tom Weiskopf won the first playing of the Honda Classic in 1972, edging Jack Nicklaus by a stroke, and resulting in one of three runner-up finishes for Golden Bear. Payne Stewart finished second in the Honda Classic five times without ever having won, while with wins 1977 and 1978 Jack Nicklaus is the only back-to-back Honda Classic champion. Both Nicklaus victories were notable; in 1977 the Golden Bear beat Gary Player by five strokes, still the largest margin of victory in this event; in 1978 Jack won by finishing with five consecutive birdies which is a PGA Tour record for most consecutive birdies to finish and win a tournament. While there are no other consecutive victors, there are two other players with more than one win, Johnny Miller (1980, 1983) and Mark Calcavecchia (1987, 1998). Before The Players Championship settled into its permanent home at TPC Sawgrass, it rotated among courses, and in 1976 it took place at Inverrary GC. Jack Nicklaus won the TPC that year, and is therefore credited with three Honda Classic wins on the tourney's official website. However, that 1976 victory was in The Players Championship and not the Inverrary Classic, so official PGA Tour records list the Inverrary Classic as "not played" by Nicklaus in 1976. Earlier in the week and prior to the Honda Classic for the men, there is also the Honda Classic for Kids and the PGA Tour Wives Classic, where the players' wives golf while their husbands play caddy, and all for charity.
