In 2008, the Mayakoba Golf Classic prize fund was $3.5 million – first prize being $630,000 – making it the richest golf tournament in Mexico. Fred Funk won the inaugural event in 2007, and at the age of 50 years, 8 months, and 12 days, became the oldest player to win a PGA Tour event in 32 years. Rounding out the short list of Mayakoba victors are Brian Gay in 2008 and Mark Wilson in 2009.
