Memorial Tournament Tickets Directly associated with Jack Nicklaus, the Memorial Tournament is presented by Morgan Stanley and played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Muirfield is not only a Nicklaus-designed golf course in a suburb of Nicklaus' home town of Columbus, Ohio, but the course passes through a neighborhood called Muirfield Village, where along Muirfield Drive there is actually a statue of Nicklaus teaching a young child how to golf. The Memorial reached an unprecedented milestone in the 1990s went it achieved "Sold-Out" status – a first on the PGA Tour for a tournament other than the major championship events. Given that Columbus, Ohio is where Nicklaus was born and raised, where he started his own family, and where he learned the game of golf, it was a dream of his to create a golf club which not only incorporated his personal and professional life, but also an event that would long represent his passion for tournament golf, while giving back to the very community that embraced Nicklaus and the game of golf his entire life. His dream was fulfilled in May 1976, with the first playing of the Memorial Tournament – precisely two years to the day after the Grand Opening and the first rounds were played at Muirfield Village. Nicklaus conveyed the intention of hosting his own tournament during Masters Week in 1966, when he spoke of his desire to create a tournament that had world wide interest, like The Masters, and was inspired by the history and many traditions of golf. The Golden Bear also wanted the tournament to give back to the community in the form of charitable contributions which would benefit needy adults and children throughout Columbus and Ohio, and the primary charitable organization of the Memorial Tournament is Nationwide Children's Hospital.

 As one of the restricted field events on the PGA Tour, only the first 75 players on the previous year's money-list are guaranteed an invitation to the Memorial Tournament. Additionally, one of the main features of the Memorial is the annual induction ceremony honoring past golfers; a plaque for each honoree can be found on display near the clubhouse at Muirfield, with Nicklaus himself an honoree in 2000. Other Memorial honorees include such men's greats as Lee Trevino (2004), Payne Stewart (2001), Jack Nicklaus (2000), Ben Hogan (1999), and Arnold Palmer (1993), in addition to possibly the most historic female athletes of all time, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, who was added to the wall in 1991. Tiger Woods has the most victories in the event with four (1999-2001, 2009), but the Memorial is perhaps most famous for being at the mercy of Ohio's unpredictable springtime weather. Each year usually experiences its fair share of delays as a result of threatening weather; in 1977 the tournament was forced to postpone the final round, and in 1990 the Memorial was actually called off early, after only 54 holes, due to a waterlogged course. However, the last time any significant stoppage of play took place was 1997. For several years, the Memorial Tournament was played over Memorial Day weekend, but could never seem to escape the inevitably frequent rains. In 1989 the tournament was moved up two weeks, but fell victim to rain once again, and eventually the Memorial was permanently moved to the first weekend of June. This latest schedule change has helped to avoid the constant threat of May showers, so you can get tickets now and leave your umbrella at home for the next scheduled Memorial Tournament presented by Morgan Stanley, scheduled to take place June 3-6, 2010.
