Merrill Lynch Shootout Tickets More popularly known and referred to as the Shark Shootout, the Merrill Lynch Shootout is, and always will be, legendary Greg "the Shark" Norman's tournament. Proud to be entering its 22nd year, the Shootout is a team tournament event that takes place at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida during the PGA Tour's Challenge Season, which begins after the last official money event of the season. With Tiburón's irreproachable customer service, stacked, sod-wall bunkers, and coquina-shell waste areas, this venue has been said to provide Shootout players, and guests alike, with the ultimate golfing experience. Hosted by Norman since its inception in 1989, the Merrill Lynch Shark Shootout takes place at the Tiburón GC, a WCI community featuring 36 holes of Greg Norman-designed golf. While the course was carved from 800 acres of prime Southwest Florida real estate, the course outline was limited to only 230 acres – preserving as many natural areas as possible, and actually only having 90 acres maintained as playable. The one-of-a-kind Shark Shootout competition is played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, while featuring twenty-four of the world's top pro golfers playing on two-man teams in a mixed-format of modified alternate shot, better ball, and scramble. The 3-day, 54-hole stroke play event plays the first round on Friday using the modified alternate shot rule, followed by Saturday utilizing the better ball rule, and finishing under scramble rules for the last round on Sunday.

 The Wisconsin duo of Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker won the 2009 Shark Shootout, edging three other duos by one stroke after going 13-under-par in the Sunday Scramble and 26-under for the event. In the twenty-one year history of this event, there have been quite a few multiple winners, but only two complete repeating teams, while Norman himself has only won once (1998). Each of the two teams that won more than once also won in consecutive years – Hank Kuehne & Jeff Sluman (2003-04) and Brad Faxon & Scott McCarron (2000-01) – while Fred Couples (1990, 1994, 1999), Brad Faxon (1994, 2000-01), and Steve Elkington (1993, 1995, 1998) are the only players to win three Shark Shootouts. The other players with at least two wins are Raymond Floyd (1990, 1995), Tom Kite (1992, 1996), Kenny Perry (2005, 2008), and Jerry Kelly (2006, 2009). Thanks to the support of Merrill Lynch and other major corporations, the Shootout has become one of the most prestigious and unique events on the PGA Tour.
