The inaugural Grand Slam took place at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, resulting with 1978 U.S. Open winner, Andy North, and the 1978 Masters winner, Gary Player, sharing the victory as co-winners. After that, the Grand Slam was played on a different course each year, including many of the finest courses in the United States. However, from 1994 to 2006, the tournament settled down at the Poipu Bay Golf Course in Kolaoa on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The next year, the Grand Slam found itself on the move once again, landing at the Mid-Ocean Club in Bermuda for 2007 and 2008. In 2009 and again for 2010, the Grand Slam remains in Bermuda, but is now hosted at the absolutely stunning Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton Parish, which was completely refurbished prior to the 2009 contest, played October 20-21 of last year. The beautiful Port Royal course provides an ideal setting for a tournament that is regarded as a "lighthearted climax to the pro season", while the thrilling ocean views and abundance of birdie opportunities provide much to enjoy for players of such high caliber as competing in the Grand Slam.

 Lucas Glover was crowned the "champion of champions" in Bermuda, cruising to a comfortable victory in 2009. Glover, the overnight leader, recovered from a shaky start, briefly giving up the lead to Stewart Cink on the opening holes before accelerating down the stretch as Cink faded. He finishing at 11-under-par for a five-stroke victory over Angel Cabrera (-6), while Cink (-5) ended up third. Y.E. Yang had another seesaw day, finishing four shots off the pace at one-under-par. After the play-off drama of the last two years at Mid-Ocean, the 2009 Grand Slam was a relatively fairly relaxed championship this time around. Glover thrived in the casual environment, admitting that he played his best golf in relaxed surroundings, while only a bogey on 18 prevented him from equaling the course record he had set the first day as he finished the 36-hole contest with thirteen birdies and an eagle. The good-natured American, a surprise victor at the U.S. Open, was a popular champion, and, after graciously accepting the packed gallery's applause along with the winner's pink jacket on the 18th green, Glover returned the compliment, adding that the friendly nature of the tournament had not dulled the competitive edge of the competitors. Only four men have won the PGA Grand Slam of Golf more than once, and none of the names on that list should come as a surprise to anyone. Tiger Woods leads the way with a dominant record of seven victories (1998-2002, 2005-06), far ahead of Greg Norman's three (1986, 1993-94) and the two each by Jim Furyk (2003, 2008) and Andy North (1979, 1990). The current purse for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf totals $1.35 million, with the winner taking home $600,000. Although this is most likely the lowest first prize total that the competitors have played for all year, it is truly the honor of qualifying which is the greater prize, while the guaranteed fourth-place prize of $200,000 is nothing to balk about either.
