In addition to these lucrative career bonuses, The PLAYERS Championship offers the winner an excessively high amount of points which count toward the year-end Official World Golf Ranking. The winner receives a fixed allocation of 80 points towards his Official World Golf Ranking, which is the most allocated to any event aside from the majors, in which the winners earn 100 points. As a comparison, the winners of the three individual World Golf Championships – the Accenture Match Play Championship, WGC-Championship, and WGC Bridgestone Invitational – generally receive between 70 and 78 points, and these three tournaments are official money events of the PGA Tour, the European Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour.

 Five players have won The PLAYERS Championship more than once since 1974, with Jack Nicklaus leading the way with three victories (1974, 1976, 1978) just ahead of Fred Couples (1984, 1996), Steve Elkington (1991, 1997), Davis Love III (1992, 2003) and Hal Sutton (1983, 2000), all with two wins. The PLAYERS Championship history has seen the tournament contested at several venues over the years, with the inaugural event in 1974 contested at the Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, Georgia, before moving to the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas in 1975, the Inverrary Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1976, and to its current location in Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida in 1977 – first at the Sawgrass Country Club abutting the Atlantic Ocean before switching to its permanent home on The Stadium Course at TPC at Sawgrass in 1982. Historically the tournament has always been held in March, but due to the restructuring of the PGA Tour to accommodate the exciting new FedEx Cup competition, The PLAYERS Championship has been moved to the month of May each year, with the next tournament that you need to get The PLAYERS Championship tickets for scheduled to take place May 6-9, 2010.
