Sbs Championship Tickets The SBS Championship is the opening event of golf's PGA Tour season, and if you had tickets for the 2010 tournament you saw Geoff Ogilvy win for the second consecutive year while pocketing a check for $1,120,000. Originally founded as the Tournament of Champions in 1953, the list of participants is limited only to golfers having won a PGA Tour tournament during the previous season. The SBS Championship is traditionally held during the first week of January and, since 1999, has been played on the Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort, near Lahaina on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Other notable previous venues have been the Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada (1953-1966) and the Stardust Country Club, also in Las Vegas (1967 and 1968). For the thirty years after that, the SBS was played at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California, before being moved to its current home in Hawaii. The tournament has also had its share of several title sponsors, the first being Mutual of New York (MONY) between 1975 and 1990, and after three years of sponsorship by Infiniti, German auto manufacturer Mercedes-Benz began a sixteen year association with the event and the Tournament of Champions portion of the name was dropped. In 2010 the tournament entered a new ten year agreement with the Korean broadcasting company Seoul Broadcasting System, with the tournament being renamed as the SBS Championship.

 With Ogilvy's second consecutive win in 2010, it placed him on a pretty prestigious list of only fourteen players to have won the event multiple times. While Jack Nicklaus leads the pack with five victories (1963-64, 1971, 1973, 1977), other golf legends such as Arnold Palmer (1962, 1965-66) and Tom Watson (1979-80, 1984) have won three times along with a couple others, just ahead of other PGA notables as Gary Player (1969, 1978), Tom Kite (1985, 1991), and Tiger Woods (1997, 2000) who have won twice along with Ogilvy and five others as well. The SBS Championship is a great way to kick off each PGA Tour season, especially since there is really no better place to be in January than Hawaii!
