Verizon Heritage Tickets The history of the Verizon Heritage dates back to Thanksgiving weekend 1969, when innovative Sea Pines designer Charles Fraser gave that first tournament, on the newly created Harbour Town Golf Links, a traditional twist by calling it the Heritage Classic. Would the world's top golfers wish to be challenged by this new and unfamiliar course? Those questions began to answer themselves when the best in the game were amongst the first to commit. When you have The King, Arnold Palmer, and the equally great Jack Nicklaus – who helped design Harbour Town along with young Pete Dye – you have cleared that first major hurdle. The good fortune continued for the Heritage, and Harbour Town Golf Links, when Palmer went on to win the inaugural tournament, his first victory in fourteen months. This result led the media to do the rest by generating volumes of complimentary copy in reference to Arnold's victory and Dye's superb new links course, as well as South Carolina's Hilton Head Island. Since the Verizon Heritage's modest beginning, the tournament has of course changed with the times, with the first change being to move the event from Thanksgiving weekend to a more advantageous date, the week after The Masters in April. The tournament has also experienced a few name changes, but is confirmed as the Verizon Heritage through 2010.

 The growth of the Verizon Heritage has been incredible, most notably displayed by the growth of the prize money from the original $100,000 – of which Palmer collected only $20,000 – to last April's $5.5 million, which saw the winner, Boo Weekley, receiving $990,000. Other than Arnold Palmer, other legendary names found inscribed on the champion's trophy include Jack Nicklaus (1975), Johnny Miller (1972, 1974), Tom Watson (1979, 1982), Payne Stewart (1989-90), Fuzzy Zoeller (1983, 1986), and the only two pros with more than two victories, Hale Irwin (1971, 1973, 1994) and record-holder Davis Love III (1987, 1991-92, 1998, 2003) to name a few.
