The way he carried on the legacy of his family, so successfully, without ever compromising his individuality as an artist is worth praising. Although he has gained considerable fame, he is down to earth. His songs has the ability to touch the soul with that old school country music.
Hank Williams III real name is Shelton Hank Williams. He was born on December 12, 1972 in Nashville, Tennessee. Since he is the grandson of Hank Williams, Sr and the son of Hank Williams Jr, he came to be known as Hank III and sometimes even III. The 'III' most of the time is represented by the Raymond Pettibon's Black Flag logo, in the modified version.
During his early years, he used to play drums in punk rock bands. It was in the year 1996, when the child support payments led Hank III to sign contract with one of the giants in the field of recording, Curb Records, the Nashville Tennessee giant. He released his first album, shortly with his grandfather Hank Williams, Sr and his father Hank Williams Jr. The name of the album was 'Three Hanks:Men With Broken Hearts' and it brought the voices of all the three generations of Hank men together in one album. The album gained much popularity and it was a nice beginning for Hank III, as he thought of giving his audience something different. But, he didn't continued with this tradition since he wanted to do something different, musically. Although he was born in Tennessee, his voice and physique, too, resembles his grandfather as well as the name could have guaranteed him a audience in the Country but unlike other musicians he never had a preference for mainstream Country, though it could have guaranteed him a thriving audience in the Country. But he chose to differ.
