Martina McBride's first big cross over hit came in 1997. The album Evolution, her fourth, featured two number one singles ("A Broken Wing" and "Wrong Again"), two number two singles ("Happy Girl" and "Whatever You Say"), and one number nine hit (Valentine)." The album appealed to both a country base and a larger adult contemporary, as proof by her record sales (Evolution was certified platinum three times).
