Reba McEntire first played the grand stage at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo back in 1984. Then, she was in between promotional gigs for Behind the Scene and Just a Little Love. Then she had yet to achieve any kind of royalty status in the country community. It was her release later that year, My Kind of Country, that would begin her ascent. The album reached number 13 on the Billboard 200 and went Gold.

Since then, Reba McEntire would become both a starlet in the music genre and a perennial player at the Houston Rodeo stage. She would quickly emerge as a platinum artist by the end of the 1980s, hitting number one on the Billlboard Country album chart with four of her last five albums of the decade. The 1990s were the height of her career. Reba McEntire played the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from 1991 to 2000 and she then released eight albums, five of which went multiplatinum and three of which stopped at platinum. The best-selling of these albums was For My Broken Heart, going four-time platinum and hitting number three in the Billboard Country album chart.
