In 1995, Israel and Meleasa Houghton together with their old friend Aaron Lindsay led the foundation of New Breed Ministries. This was a amazing group comprised of illustrious musicians and singers who serve within their respective churches and together serve the Church at large. Israel and New Breed started blending and creating sounds and songs to produce a unique music that breaks down barriers and defies categorization. This group aimed to draw people of all races, ages and cultures together through worship. Certainly, it was not an an easy task. But, it seems facile for Israel who laughingly describes himself as black kid who grew up in a white family in a Hispanic neighborhood. Together with the high vigor and strong support of the vocalists and musicians of New Breed, Israel utilizes his own multi-cultural upbringing as a reference point. Rather than calling it a white sound or black sound, it should be better called as Kingdom sound that explains the songwriter and producer.
Although this group has reached the height of popularity since its inception, 2004 and 2005 seemed to slingshot them into the limelight. Between this time, New Breed released their mega hit and gold-certified CD "Live From Another Level" in 2005. As expected for its music, the CD won a coveted GRAMMY Award nomination for Contemporary Soul Gospel Album. In February 2006, New Breed earned two Stellar Awards for CD of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year and a Soul Train Award for Best Gospel Album. Israel and New Breed won two Dove Awards for Contemporary Gospel Album and Contemporary Gospel Song at the 36th Annual GMA Music Awards in April 2006. They also dazzled the audiences with their outstanding performances at many high visibility events including a performance at the Stellar Awards and a hosting role at the GMA Music Awards for Israel. Besies these live shows, they also appeared at many TV shows including BETs Lift Every Voice, TBNs Praise The Lord and CBNs The 700 Club.

 This dedicated and devoted Christian group frequently tours and serve extensively at their local churches. Its worth mentioning that Israel is a guest worship leader at Houstons Lakewood Church, home of the popular preacher/author Joel Osteen. The group recently released recording "Timeless Christmas" in 2006. Before this album, the group launched a live CD in 2005 in Cape Town, South Africa, for Integrity Gospel. "ALIVE in South Africa" is a two-disc album presenting over 20 tracks including new songs written by Israel and Aaron.
The group possess the skilled members including lead singer Israel Houghton, Aaron Lindsey on Piano and vocals, Terrance Palmer on bass, Jerry Harris Jr. playing keys, Mike "Big Mike" Clemons and Marvin Mcquitty on drums, Johnny "Natural" Najera and Eric Brice on guitars, percussionists Javier Solis and Tony Paco, Mike Haynes, Vaughn Fransch on trumpet, Mark Douthit, Marc de Kock and Tim Coleman playing sax and Barry Green and Kelly Bell on trombone.
