The Ivy Queen, or the Queen of Reggaeton, is a Latin Grammy nominated Puerto Rican-American artist who has been a ceiling breaker in the male-dominated Reggaeton music genre. Born in Anasco, Puerto Rico and immigrated to New York City, this artist moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico and met DJ Negro, the rapper and producer who introduced her to the group The Noise.
As a performer with the group, she made her mark as a rapper. "Somos Raperos Pero No Delincuentes" (We're Rapper, But Not Delinquents). She had a choice- go back to NYC and finishing high school or continuing a promising music career. Ultimately she chose to go back to finish high school.
Ivy Queen eventually found her way back to her music career in 1994 at the age of 22. She performed with the group that made her consider the business in the first place. By the age of 25 she had progressed enough as a performer DJ Negro insisted she try and go solo. She was even named "The Peoples Favorite Rap Singer" by Arista Magazine in 1997 at the Sony International Records.

Her first two solo albums, En Mi Imperio and The Original Rude Girl, were considered critical hits by music insiders, but failed to make a commercial impression. It was her third album Diva (2004) that hit number 24 on the U.S. Latin Albums chart and number one on the U.S. Latin Rhythm Albums chart. Diva even sold 200,000 copies, good enough to be certified both Gold and Platino by the RIAA.
Ivy Queen's fourth album Real failed to build on that success. Her fifth and sixth albums did. Real (2005) and Flashback (2007) both grossed 200,000 in U.S. record sales, reaching Gold and Platino certification. They also again topped the U.S. Latin Rhythm Albums charts.
