Jerrod took to Texas, attending South Plains College for his Associate of Arts degree and performing in venues across the state. Eventually he moved to Nashville. He even signed a development deal with Mercury Records in 2001, a year after his arrival. Nothing came the way of musical releases and he moved on, touring the country as an independent musician until signing with Category 5 Records in 2006. His first single "I Love Women (My Mamma Can't Stand)" made an entry onto the country charts but the ensuing album never materialized. Again, taken aback by another career failure, he left as an independent. Eventually he signed with Arista Nashville through Brad Paisley's label and finally found a path to public release with a little corporate support.
