Jerrod Niemann is a country singer form Harper, Kansas finally receiving some attention for himself after writing three singles for Garth Brooks and lying in wait for his turn to play country music sensation. The album is his major label debut. He had previously released two self-recorded and marketed albums, Long Hard Road in 1999 and Jukebox of Hard Knocks in 2004. The album followed the release of the single "Lover, Lover," which is a remake of "You Don't Treat Me No Good No More" recorded and released by Sonia Dada in 1992.

Niemann, born in 1978, grew up listening to classic country acts like Lefty Frizzell and George Strait. His destiny seemed set after winning a guitar autographed by Tracy Lawrence at one of the venerable country singer's concerts.
