Page did pretty well, joining a band called The Crusaders which went on to have a hit single. However, Page came down with an attack of glandular fever and could no longer perform. He decided to put the music on the back burner for a while and concentrate on something else he was passionate about, painting. But Page couldn't keep away from the music completely. He continued to do some live jams and was soon approached to do some studio work as a sessions guitarist. This proved to be a crucial period of Page's career as he learned much and worked with some of the truly great musicians of his time.

Page's sessions work helped him immensely when he went on to found Led Zeppelin. He already had some band experience with his work with The Yardbirds and his sessions experience proved to be invaluable. Zeppelin became one of the most legendary and influential bands of our times, having a huge impact on the music that was to come. Page himself was responsible for much of the band's unique sound. Never much of a risk taker, Page's solid and controlled playing helped create the complete sound of the band. He also was responsible for the use of distortion, fuzz, slide guitar, acoustic guitar and pedal steel guitar in a number of the band's songs.
