John Mayall
ohn Mayall was born in the year 1933 on November 29. As his father was a guitarist and jazz enthusiast, it was natural that he was also drawn to the sounds of American blues. He was highly influenced by Albert Ammons, Pinetop Smith, Eddie Lang and Leadbelly. From a tender age, he started learning how to play piano, guitars and harmonica. He then went on to attend art college. After completion, he went on to serve in the British Army in Korea for the next three years.
It was in the year 1956 when he was able to pursue his interest. He started playing blues in semi-professional bands, "The Powerhouse Four" and then in "The Blues Syndicate". Alex Korner influenced him so much that he moved to London and formed "John Mayall's Bluesbreakers". Eric Clapton, jack Bruce, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, Don Harris, Harvey Mandel, Larry Taylor, Aynsley Dunbar, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Andy Fraser, Johnny Almond and Jon Mark.
Eric Clapton joined Mayall in favor of playing the blues, Clapton had quit Yardbirds, the band in which he was playing. Together they released their first album the Bluesbreakers and it resulted in worldwide legendary status. Later Clapton and Jack Bruce left the band to form another new band Cream. The 1969 saw John's popularity increasing in USA. At that time he released his live album entitled "The Turning Point". The song "Room To Move" from the album became a classic rock, not only this he also received a gold record. He moved to the West Coast as he was attracted to the climate as well as the culture of West Coast. He permanently moved from England to Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles. He also formed bands with American musicians. Throughout the 70s, John started featuring with famous performers such as Blue Mitchell, Red Holloway, Larry Taylor and Harvey Mandel. He came to be widely known as jazz, rock and blues. He also featured with great musicians and toured with them. They were John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker, and Sonny Boy Williamson. It was his first English club tours.

When he was at the height of his career a misfortune fell on him when a fire destroyed his hand-crafted and the legendary Laurel Canyon home, destroying his father's diaries, master recordings, extensive book & magazine collections, Mayall artwork, and much much more. But he was a strong man and somehow pulled himself up.
In 1982, he decided to reform the original Bluesbreakers and conducted a couple of tours as well as a video concert film, titled Blues Alive, that featured Albert King, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Etta James, and Sippie Wallace and many more. He was so popular with his blues roots that he was forced to return to it on popular audience demand. In 1984, he officially launched the Bluesbreakers. His popularity increased in the 90s when his albums gained huge applause. "Behind The Iron Curtain", "Chicago Line", "A Sense of Place", and "Wake Up Call". Wake Up Call was nominated for Grammy awards. "Blues For the Lost Days" ,"Spinning Coin" and "Padlock On The Blues" also garnered great reviews critical as well as popular acclaim. He also released three CD's through his own private label, Private Stash Records. In 2005 he recorded and released his 55th album, "Road Dogs".
John Mayall still continues to remain true to the timeless music, for over the past decades he has done a great deal to popularize the blues all over the globe.
