John Pizzarelli
ohn Pizarelli is an accomplished jazz guitarist as well as a vocalist. With his genial voice, pleasing stage presence and a special talent for a fast as well as lively swing, he has the ability to to impress the audience and make them sway with his rhythm. His passion for music runs in his blood, since his father was also a skilled guitarist, Bucky Pizzarelli. John started his journey in music at the age of 20. He started performing with his father and released his debut album in 1983, I'm Hip -- Please Don't Tell My Father. He was influenced by such legendary guitarists such as Les Paul and Django Reinhardt, to such extent that now he is drawn paralled to both of these jazz luminaries. He formed his own band named John Pizzarelli Trio, with his brother Martin on bass and Ray Kennedy on eighty-eight.
Pizzarelli has got an unique old-school sound, that has made many jazz players to stand up and take notice of him. In the year 1993, John Pizzarelli Trio conducted a series of tours and also opened various dates on Frank Sinatra's tour, as it was celebration of the 80th birthday of the legend, that was celebrated at Carnegie Hall. By and by, Pizzarelli's fame increased that acquired him a lead spot in the Broadway production of +Dream, in the year 1997. It was a tribute to the composer Johnny Mercer. In 1998, he released Meets the Beatles. In this album he reinterpreted the classic songs by the iconic Liverpool quartet. In 1999, he paid his tribute to the legendary pianist as well as vocalist Nat King Cole, in P.S. Mr.Cole. Nat King Cole was one of the biggest influences in Pizzarelli's life. This album became very famous and was also highly regarded by his fans. In 1999, he entered into a contract with the Telarc label and released two standards-based albums, Kisses in the Rain and Let There Be Love, in 2000. He then went on to record an album with pianist George Shearing. Next, he released his album Live at Birdland in 2003. This was a concert album released to celebrate the ten years of performing with his trio. He then took a break from the swing. In the year 2004, he released his next album Bossa Nova. This album largely featured the works of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Brazilian composer. It also showcased the Pizzrelli trio on some classics of the genre as "The Girl from Dianemarie" and "Aguas de Marco (Waters of March)". In the year 2005, Pizzarelli again returned to swing in his usual fare of American standards and released the album Knowing You. In 2006, he released Dear Mr.Sinatra Matt Collar, backed by the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and paid his tribute to the legend himself. He also sang the theme for Fox wood Casino, The Wonder of it All.
