Ken Dodd was born on 8th November in the year 1927 , on the outskirts of Liverpool in a village called, Knottyash. He was the son of a coal merchant. When he reached at the age of 20, he started selling pots, pans and brushes. He also invented for the Liverpool housewives, his own version of Softsoap. He used to do two jobs. During the day time, he worked hard by selling his wares in and around streets of Liverpool, while during the night time, he used to entertain people on ' The Club's ' Circuit as " Professor Yaffle Chuckabutty, Operatic Tenor and Sausage-Knotter. He used to carry on his performances regular, because people used to love it. Lady luck smiled on him, when he was 27 years old and he got his first big break. He appeared at the Nottingham Playhouse in the year 1954. In 1958, he eventually topped the bill at Blackpool.

After the success of Ken Dodd Show in the T.V, other series followed- Doddy's Music Box, The Good Old Days , Ken Dodd's World Of Laughter and Ken Dodd and the Diddymen. In 1965, he produced another show in the television. The name of the show was the London Palladium, that was instant hit and broke all the records of box office. He was later given a gold watch by the manager.
He also started his singing career. He released his album 'Tears' on EMI's Columbia label in the year. He then released his next album 'Love is Like a Violin'on Decca, this label was the rival of EMI. This album was followed by Once in Every Lifetime. His one of the most famous tune, that he still plays, was released in 1964 and the tune was Happiness. His biggest hits, ever was Tears released in 1964, that sold over an astonishing 2 Million copies. In 1966, he released "Promises". Not only this, he also entered into the guiness book of records, for the Longest Joke Telling session. He told 1,500 jokes in 3 and half hours. He conducts tours and is currently doing 4 shows a week at a number of locations across England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
