Kokua Festival 2008
Jack Johnson hosted 5 consecutive Kokua Festivals since co-founding the Kokua Hawaii Foundation in 2003 with wife, Kim. Johnson and his crew are working with local non-profit organizations at every show during their upcoming tour to create a new interactive community, All at Once. They hope to bring the Kokua message around the world and motivate fans to create a positive change. World-renowned singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews will perform as part of an acoustic duo with friend, Tim Reynolds. Matthews is most known for heading the Dave Matthews Band and Reynolds is most known for his quick acoustic work, tremolo picking and sharp rhythms. Paula Fuga first appeared at the Kokua Festival in 2006 and collaborated with Johnson on a song, "Country Road" for the Mana Maoli CD that year. Since then, she's been touring the mainland promoting her debut album, Lilikoi. The album puts romantic soulful lyrics together with reggae rhythms and Hawaiian culture. Mason Jennings was born in Honolulu, HI and his songs give insights that offer hope, honesty and faith. His music has even appeared in surf film Shelter and he's been touring a lot over the last decade. He recently signed with Johnson's Brushfire Records label. Go Jimmy Go, a local band, creates their unforgettable sound using ska and reggae with some classic soul. They've released 3 albums in the last 8 years, won a multitude of awards and been on stage with a varying group of industry heavy-weights during quite a few national and international tours.

Artist Biography - Kokua Festival 2008
|
Hawaii native Jack Johnson will share the stage with Dave Matthews at this year's Kokua Festival on Earth Day weekend (April 19-20, 2008). It will be held at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, HI. Dave Matthews, a performer new to the Festival, will perform an acoustic set with Tim Reynolds. The rest of the line-up is: local favorites Paula Fuga and Go Jimmy Go and Hawaii-born, Minneapolis-based Mason Jennings. In celebration of the Festival's 5th anniversary, two new projects have been added to encourage Hawaii's students into environmental action. School groups that completed exceptional Kokua Earth Action Projects this school year were invited to the Keiki Kokua Festival, a children-only celebration recognizing students' efforts to care for the islands. They will be entertained by Jack Johnson and the other Kokua Festival artists, educational skits, videos and exchanges from other KEAP school groups.
