Legendary Music Of Patti Page
Background- Patti Page became one of the best-selling female singer during the 50s. She is well-known for her hits like "The Doggie in the Window" and "I Went to Your Wedding." She remained a major chart force into the mid-'60s.
Patti Page was born as Clara Ann Fowler in Muskogee, into a large but poor farming family. When she was 18 years old, she started singing on a 15-minute radio program on radio station KTUL, Tulsa, Oklahoma. This program was being sponsored by the 'Page Milk Company' and she became so popular that she was nicknamed as Patti Page. In 1946, Jack Rael, a band manager, heard Page's song on the radio. He liked the song so much that he approached her and asked her to join the Jimmy Joy band, which Rael used to manage. After playing with the band for some time, both of them left the band; and Rael became Patti's personal manager and also the leader of the backup orchestra for many of her recordings.
In the year 1948, she recorded a song called "Confess". The song became a hit and it had a version that involved a duet by Doris Day and Buddy Clark. Since they had less money so Jack Rael suggested that Patti sing the second part also. Both the song became a hit and appeared on the Top 20 hit.
Her next song was "With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming", also became another big hit for Page, which sold a million. She also became the first singer to record multiple tracks on the same song ("Confess"). On some of the records, she was termed as "Vocal by Patti Page, Patti Page, and Patti Page". The song "Confess" became her first charted hit, which was released in the year 1948 for Mercury Records. The song reached #12 on the Billboard chart. Her first number one hit was "All My Love", which was based on Maurice Ravel's "Bolero", and it remained continuously at #1 for 5 weeks in 1950.
