In 1967, she made a break into movies playing the role of "Barbara Pegg" with Sidney Poitier in "To Sir with love". Critics praised her performance and the title song she performed reached #1 in the United States. She was the first non-American female singer to top the US Charts for five weeks. In 30 June to 2 July, 1967 she appeared on The Monkees tour.
Lulu's 1970 song "Oh me oh my" (I'm a fool for you baby) brought her back to the US Charts.
In 1972 she starred and won rave reviews for her role in the Christmas pantomime Peter Pan at the Palace Theatre, Manchester . She repeated her performance at the London Palladium in 1975, and returned to the same role in different London-based productions from 1987 to early 1989.
Later the year, she had the honor of representing Great Britain in the Eurovision song contest and performed "Boom bang-a-bang". She shared First prize with Spain, Netherlands and France. In 1969, in a ceremony at Gerrards cross she married she married Maurice Gibb of Bee Gees. Unfortunately, they lasted only four years driven apart by their careers.
In 1974, she sang the title sang of James Bond's "Man with the Golden gun". In the same year, she covered two David Bowie tracks: "Man who sold the world" and "Watch out", where Bowie himself performed backing vocals and played sax. In 1975, Lulu married John Frieda, her hairdresser. The marriage lasted for twenty years and they have one son, Jordan Frieda.
In 1981, her song "I could never miss you (more than i do)" brought her back in the US Charts.
In 2000, she was given an OBE , by the British Government. She also released her autobiography "Don't wanna fight no more", a song she wrote for Tina Turner. Her old fans and even new spectators would not look back after buying her tickets. Age hasn't deterred Lulu's performance. Her Spunk, energy and raspy voice still mesmerizes people.

Born Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, on the 3rd of November, 1948, in Lennox Castle, Lennoxtown, Glasgow, Lulu started singing almost immediately, dreaming of selling thousands of tickets in live performances. At 4, she performed for her first audience at a Coronation Party. At 14, she joined as vocalist for the band, "Gleneagles" performing in clubs around Edinburgh and Glasgow. At 15, she was discovered by Marion Massey who'd last as her long-time mentor and manager and her ticket to fame. Marion took the band to London, where they re-emerged as "The Luvvers" and Marie McDonald Mclaughlin Lawrie as Lulu. Turned down by Columbia (EMI), within weeks they were accepted by Dacca. Their first single, a version of the Isley Brothers' "Shout" took them by storm and it reached #7 of the UK charts. She left the band to pursue a solo career. Between 1964 to 1965, she released a slew of singles successful in the British Charts: "Here comes the Night", "Leave a little love" and "Try to understand".
In 1966, touring Poland with The Hollies, she became the first British woman to ever perform behind the Iron Curtain. Returning home, she toured with Roy Orbison and The Walker Brothers. With the German Dacca label, she performed two german songs "Wenn Du Da Bist" and "So Fing es an". She enjoyed three major hit singles - "The Boat that i row", "Let's pretend" and "Love loves to love". In the same year she got her first BBC Television series "Three of a kind". Enjoying her success, it also made her way to the US where she performed and appeared on "The Ed Sullivan show", "David Frost show", "Johnny Carson" etc . In the same year, she switched labels to Columbia, the same label that won't accept her. She met Producer Mickie Most (The Animals, Herman's Hermits, Donovan). In 1972, this talented lady won rave reviews from critics and fans for her performance in Christmas pantomime "Peter Pan" at the Palace Theater, Manchester. In 1975, the performance was repeated at London Palladium and she would return tostage between 1987 to 1989
