Luna
The quartet finally headed to the studios for rehearsing and recording 'Ride Into the Sun'; 'That's What You Always Say'; 'Indian Summer;', and 'the Christmas single Egg Nog'. These were produced and recorded by the band at Mixolydian Studios in Boonton, New Jersey (These would later be included in the 'Slide EP'). In 1992 and 1993 they opened for the 'Screaming trees' and 'Sundays' respectively, before opening for their idols 'Velvet Underground' in their European tour.
In 1994, they released their brilliant 'Bewitched' featuring their hero, Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison on several tracks. 1995 saw the release of 'Penthouse', an alt-rock masterpiece, a rarity that has achieved cult-status. Fans of this album claim listening non-stop only leads to craving it more. 'Rhythm King'; 'Moon Palace' and '23 Minutes in Brussels' are gems from this particular album. The riffs are seductive, the lyrics are witty and the voice drenched with a sense of longing and seeking romance, indelible guitar hooks and inventive six-string sound-scapes.
The release of Pup Tent(1997) saw Lee Wall replace Stanley Demeski. The songs are creatively different but there is still a common underlying theme in all the songs. 'Ihop'; 'Bobby Peru' and 'Whispers' did very well with the critics. Cleverly, the album has songs that begin and end with Faye Dunaway movies. All in all, a very solid album.
In 1998 , Luna released their fifth album, 'The Days of our Nights' produced by Paul Kimble at RPM and Sear sound in New York. It included a cover of the Guns and Roses' classic 'Sweet Child of mine' and Joy Division's 'Math Rip'. The albums that followed after this were 'Romantica'; 'Rendezvous'and the 'Best of Luna'

Artist Biography - Luna
|
The slinky, scandalously beautiful guitar ballads of Luna have mesmerized listeners who bought albums or tickets to watch them live. Slamming naysayers who doubted the comeback of Dean Wareham after his departure from his old band, Luna is still churning out stellar music and killer concerts. Luna's talent lies in creating songs that after constant listening becomes positively addictive. In terms of sound, Velvet Underground is one of their biggest influences.
In 1991, after a hectic tour supporting the Cocteau twins, Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500 told the rest of his band-mates that he was leaving the band. Together with Mercury Rev's drummer Jimmy Chambers, they recorded some demos ('Anesthesia', 'I Can't wait' and 'slash your tires') and gave them to Elektra Records. Elektra Records, impressed with the sample, asked Dean to form a band. Justin Harwood of the Chills agreed to join and further recruited drummer Byron Guthrie. He would later be replaced by Stanley Demeski, ex-drummer of 'Feelies'. Responding to their ad for guitar player in the 'Village Voice', Sean Eden, a Canadian who was in New York to pursue acting joined their original line-up. Along with music producer Dave Fridmann they recorded demos and played live with 'Mercury Rev' guitarist Grasshopper. This new set recorded their debut album 'Lunapark' under Elektra Records along with producer Fred Maher.
Luna's music has that whiff of darkness, which is the same as temptation. If you're still uncertain about what your next album purchase would be or which concert tickets you are buying, go for Luna and forever be mesmerized.
