Mark Farner
Mark released a few Christian albums from 1983 through 1994 and also enjoyed success with some of them. Notable was the Dove Award nomination for the Joe Beland composition - 'Isn't it Amazing'. That number was also a chart topper and stood at #2 on Christian charts. He ventured into something different in the 1990s. He began Lismark Communications with Steve Lisuk, the former editor of Freedom Reader. It became the vehicle for Mark to re-issue some of his hit solo albums. In 1995 and 1996, he was seen with Ringo Starr's All-Star band and returned to a few benefit concerts with his teenage buddies Don and Mel. The re-united Grand Funk Railroad toured extensively in the later 1990s and was voted to Pollstar's Top 100 tours of 1998.
He currently is touring with his own band Nr'G and also brought out two CDs in that name. Collectors Guid Publishing brought out Mark Farner's official biography - 'From Grand Funk to Grace' in the year 2002.

Artist Biography - Mark Farner
|
Mark Farner is a famous rock and roll artist, guitarist and songwriter. He is the co-founder of one of the pioneer rock bands 'Grand Funk Railroad' of the 1970s that boasts of about 12 platinum and 15 gold records. Born on September 29, 1948 in Flint, Michigan he assumed a busy music life when he was about 20 years of age. He put together an amateur group even while at high school and performed in local weddings, high-school dances and such like. Later, he associated himself with bands like Terry Knight and The Pack, The Bossmen, The Pack, before the idea of a new self-promoted band was born in his mind. He gave shape to that idea by forming the Grand Funk Railroad in 1969. He was joined in that effort by two of his teenage buddies - Mel Schacher and Don Brewer.
The Atlanta International Pop Festival, in July 1969, was their first mega event where they played in front of a large audience of about 180,000 people. That event resulted in the acquaintance of Capital Records and their alliance resulted in 'On Time', their first gold album. Another milestone performance was in the year 1971, at New York's Shea stadium, and the attendance for that is said to have braved the record set by The Beatles in 1966. But, six years later, Grand Funk Railroad disbanded and Mark took the solo path for a while. With Atlantic Records, he released the solo albums 'Mark Farner' and 'No Frills'. The band took a second incarnation and re-emerged in 1981 and came out of with two new albums - 'Grand Funk Lives' and 'What's Funk.'
