Plan B can put Plan A to shame. Singer/guitarist Adam Levine, guitarist Jesse Carmichael, bass player Mickey Madden and drummer Ryan Dusick would second that emotion, seeing as how their first shot at the big time got them some rave notices, but not much else. Now, their second shot, in the form of funky pop rock outfit Maroon 5, thanks to the song "Harder To Breathe," has the LA-based Maroon 5 looking like the Cinderella story and has fans looking for Maroon 5 tickets every time they announce a tour or release a new album.
The four band members have been acquaintances since junior high school and became one of those rare groups to actually not only remain friends, but go on to form a band that lasted longer than a summer. At first that band was called Kara's Flowers and they achieved some measure of success, playing Whiskey A Go-Go in 1995. They even signed with Reprise Records, released an album (Fourth World), and toured in support of Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger in 1997.
Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass) and Ryan Dusick (drums) certainly learned a great deal from the experience, but success came years later after the band changed its name to Maroon 5. Five years after their first album, the boys released Songs About Jane. The album went multiplatinum around the English-speaking world and in Japan and peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 thanks to the success of the singles "Harder to Breather", "This Love", and She Will Be Loved".
Maroon 5 toured constantly in promotion of the album and did not release the sophomore album It Won't Be Soon Before Long four years later in 2007. It immediately broke out with "Makes Me Wonder", the band's number one single. The album did not sell as well as the debut, but did go platinum in several countries, including going double-platinum in the U.S.
The latest album, Hands All Over, may be the last from Maroon 5. Adam Levine has indicated that the group may have reached the end of its run together. The album has gone gold so far after peaking at number two on the Billboard 200. One of the three singles, "Misery" landed inside the Top 20 of the Hot 100.
