Achieving some success, Massimo Ranieri returned to Naples after two years. There he received a huge welcome at the public square. Massimo participated and won two editions of 'Canzonissima' (where he sang 'L'Amore E Un Attimo' in 1970 and 'Chi Sara' in 1972) , from here on he became the people's star 'Massimo Ranieri'. Between the two 'Canzonissima' performances, he represented Italy in the Eurovision song contest where he won 5th place( he also sang 'L' Amore E Un Attimo). In 1973 again, he participated again in the Eurovision song contest where he was 13th (he sang 'Chi sara con te'.
'Perdere l'amore' the song that won him 1988's San Remo Festival, became one of his biggest hits. Massimo's popularity led hm to roles in movies, television and theater. In 1970, Massimo won a 'David di Donatello awards' (category- special award in acting) for his role in 'Metello'. He received a lot of acclaim for his role as Tonino, in 'La Sciantosa, co-starring Anna Magnani, directed by Alfredo Giannetti. Massimo integrated North African instrumentation to his beloved Neapolitan music and created 'Oggi o dimane', appreciated by both critics and masses. However, Massimo made a place in the hearts of millions of Italians with 'Rose Rosse' (1969), which includes his timeless hits 'Rose Rosse' and 'Quando l'amore diventa poesia'. The album was a powerful collection of Ranieri climbing the stairs of stardom.
40 years still, the vocals are still powerful, charisma mesmerizing, the lyrics are romantic and sensuous. Massimo did not become Italy's favorite pop star with just a few hits. The consistency and growth of his music has kept his fans in love with him. Thousands of fans who buy tickets to his concerts still think he's the most exciting thing on Italy's pop scene.
