Mates Of The State is a Rock band from Kansas. The band was formed in 1997. It consists of keyboardist, vocalist Kori Gardner, and drummer, vocalist Jason Hammel. They both were playing the guitar and singing in downtown urban complex of Lawrence in Kansas. That is when they decided to form their own band and the Mates Of The State were born.
The band were signed up by Omnibus Records and subsequently released their first EP in 1999. The album was a split with Fighter D. The band then shifted to San-Francisco in search of greener pastures. This is when they released their second EP, "It's the Law/Invitation Inn." The band finally got it together and released their debut album, "Mu Solo Project" in 2000. Mates of the State then embarked on a tour of the Midwest, all through the next year they kept playing in gigs and concerts across the region.

The band also kept performing at shows with other artists like Superdrag, the Anniversary and Beulah. Their creative juices were flowing and they were also writing songs on the road. This led to the follow up to their debut album, "Our Constant Concern" in 2002. The band re-issued their debut album, "My Solo Project" the following year.
