The McLean Symphony boasts of an incredible number of achievements and is regarded as one of the few remaining all-volunteer orchestras in the greater Washington, DC area. The Symphony has been performing under the continued leadership of Dingwall Fleary. The McLean Symphony was formed about 35 years ago and presently it is recognized as one of the first-rate ever, community as well as regional orchestra. All through this years, the quality of the performance of the McLean Symphony has never ever dropped. The Symphony is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization.
One of the most interesting fact about the McLean Symphony is that nearly seventy musicians are the members of this symphony and these musician hails from different corners of the world, thus making the Symphony truly a cross-section of the community. Apart from being musicians, they hails from different professions such as business, medical professions, governmental officials, military specialists, teachers and students. Over the years, these musicians have ranged in the the age from teenagers to nonagenarians. It is a surprising fact that the eldest as well as the current member is a youthful 92 years old and some of the members have been a part of this Symphony for the last fifteen years or more.

Artist Biography - Mclean Symphony

Although there has been a number of orchestras, but Symphony is unparalleled, compared to any of these orchestras. It has revolutionized the idea of showcasing the talents of young people in the community as the composers, soloists, narrators and annotators and has also given a chance to the nonagenarians also to pursue their interest. It has also tried to establish tradition of featuring the remarkable solo capabilities of its own members. Although the Symphony has got limited resources, apart from the members, some prominent artists appears as guests to perform as soloists on a regular basis just to grab an opportunity to work with the orchestra as well its conductor. As a result, The McLean Symphony has been recognized as well as accredited for its presentation of music by the contemporary foreign as well as American composers, with special emphasis to perform the works of those musicians and composers who are still living, many in the Greater Washington area.
The season of McLean Symphony consists of five concerts for the full orchestra in the Alden Theater of the McLean Community Center. They also play several programs to the retirement communities and schools in the area and also at a number of locations in the suburbs of Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. They also perform Starlight Concerts, which is a three chamber music programs and is offered in private homes in McLean, Virginia. In addition, the Symphony was also invited to perform at the reenbrier Resort in West Virginia, the International Children's Festival at Wolf Trap, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Music Center at Strathmore.
The Symphony, throughout its history has done many community service through its music. The orchestra is being supported in its noble endeavor by the corporations, individuals, local businesses and private foundations and also from the Arts Council of Fairfax and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
This year, The McLean Symphony guest artists are violin virtuosi, MarcOlivia that is Marc Ramirez and Olivia Haijioff, the critically acclaimed Mormon Choir of Washington who will be performing under the direction of Gary Clawson and his assistant, Dave Hardin; Carol Ann Barry, a concert pianist and popular song stylist, Beverly Cosham.
