Menomena is the Indie rock group out of Portland, a side project taken up by Danny Siem of Lackthereof after he returned home and decided to do something with longtime friends Brent Knopf and Justin Harris. Menomena tickets have sold for tours with bands like the Gang of Four, The National, and the Long Winters and for headlining gigs of their own.
This a talented band of musicians who can swap instruments and each take turns at the microphone. In late 2000, Knopf had returned home from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and began collaborating with Siem and Harris. They chose the name Menomena simply because of the way the word sounded, though they have been rumored to have taken the name in reference to the Piero Umiliana song "Mah Na Mah Na" featured on the Muppet Show or as a blend for the words "Men" and "Phenomena."

The group began by self-releasing several albums. I Am the Fun Monster! came out in 2003 and Under an Hour released in 2005. Eventually the group found a label with Barsuk. The group's next two albums, Friend and Foe (2007) and Mines (2010) have been released through the label.
