Michael Flately
After attending Brother Rice High School in Chicago, IL, he opened a dance school. But his professional success did not come through until he joined "The Chieftains" for tours in the 1980s. With fellow dancer Jean Butler, he led "Riverdance" to the honor of being the intermission act in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. The duo performed in a full-length show, which was an offshoot of the original seven-minute sequence. They separated following creative disagreements and Michael ended up working independently, very successfully though. He directed, produced and choreographed in his own show, "Lord of the Dance" in 1998. He later put together a dance fleet that was called "Feet of Flames". A version of that toured the US and Europe widely in 2000/2001 seasons.
He has been busy with his latest Irish dance show – Celtic Tigers for which tickets are fast selling out. It opened in 2005 and carries a novel theme of the portrayal of the lives of Irish immigrants. He seemed to have blended many dance styles including jazz and also re-created acts from his past shows. He released his autobiography "Lord of the Dance: My Story" in March 2006.
Michael married a Polish make-up artist Beata Dziaba but the marriage did not last for more than 11 years. He later married his long time girl friend Lisa Murphy. He also extricated himself from a rape charge by going public with the true details of it and not allowing Tyna Marie Robertson to blackmail him for monetary benefits. He is said to have been diagnosed with a form of skin cancer and has held details of it in secrecy. Other than being a dancer, he also is a trained boxer and went on to win the Golden Gloves Championship in 1975. He is also a talented flautist and has been mixing his flute performances in his dance shows.

Artist Biography - Michael Flately
|
There can be no limit to the heights a human being can scale if he pursued his dreams with utmost dedication and perseverance. Michael Flatley serves as one of the best examples for this theory. A construction worker in the south side of Chicago, he tapped his potential to mesmerize the world with the taps of his legs by being one of the best tap dancers of the world. What more can corroborate that idea other than the fact that his legs that once up on a time traversed the construction sites, now holds about a whopping 40,000,000 dollars in insurance premium, the highest by any dancer in the world.
Michael Ryan Flatley was born in Chicago, to Irish parents, in 1958. His parents migrated from Ireland to Illinois in 1947 and put up a successful construction business. Michael admits that it was his father that sowed the seeds of professional discipline, work ethic and the extraordinary drive. He believes that it was that drive that was instrumental in he pursuing his dreams, though in a different career path. Although they thrived in the construction business, he had the dancers' blood in him passed over from his mother and maternal grandmother whho were dancers themselves, and also his first teachers.
