Mika was formally trained by the Russian Opera professional, Alla Ardakov, and later would attend the Royal College of Music in London. His debut occurred when he appeared on Dermot O'Leary show in 2006. He was reported to have the raw talent of three and a half octaves at his young age. In 2007, Mika received the #1 position of the Sound of 2007 on BBC News.
His first album release was Relax, Take it Easy, which also contained Dodgy Holiday for download. Universal Music released Grace Kelly to digital download in early 2007, which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. His debut album, Life in Cartoon Motion was quickly released after his success with his singles.
He later would hit American TV talk shows and performed for So You Think You Can Dance. He then would open for the 2008 BRIT Awards with live performances of Love Today, Grace Kelly, and Standing in the Way of Control. He received the award for the Best British Breakthrough Artist that night. Mika's music has become so influential that he started ghost writing for many artists.
