 Eventually, after an international committee was formed and an official World Championship took place in Australia in 1958, the sport began to make major headway with the Winter Olympics. Finally, in 1960, the sport was adopted by the Olympics. At first only men were allowed to compete. Women had to fight for 32 more years before the women's biathlon debuted in 1992. The biathlon at the 2010 Winter Games will be held in Whistler Olympic Park and will have 220 athletes trying to win 10 events. Men will compete in a team activity (the 4 x 7.5 km Relay) and four individual events. Women will compete in a team activity (the 4 x 6 km Relay) and four individual events that typically are for a shorter distance than the men.
