Ski Jumping Tickets Ski Jumping takes the skiers down a hill and off a ramp. They glide through the air, reaching heights of 50 meters and come back down to Earth. The sport is judged by a combination of style sports and distance. This is not the X-Games version of style, but one that requires incredible balance and strength to hold form and not tumble at the very end. Rye, a lieutenant in the Norwegian Army put on a show for soldiers in 1809, jumping nearly 10 meters in the air. The sport continued from there, gaining bigger air and eventually launching itself into international competition in 1892 at an event in Holmenkollen. The sport is judged by style and distance. Style points are awarded for keeping skis steady while flying through the air and for sowing balance, and getting good body position upon landing. The distance measures not only how far the jumper has traveled in flight, but also if they land along a designated line, called the K-line.
