Chicago Cubs Tickets
OK, so that is not the best selling point, but the reality is that the season schedule has just begun and there is three-fourths of the baseball season left for the Cubs to make a run in a very volatile division. Currently the Reds are in first and they are still a young team. The Cardinals still have question marks and the Pujols dilemma will likely rear its ugly locker-room poisoning head very soon. That leaves the usual cast of second half follies and gives Chicago the chance to turn the proverbial "things" around.
Those things that the Chicago Cubs has to turn around include completing the cycle and getting the runners on base to cross home plate and to import a new pitching staff. Sure the first issue sounds quite obvious, but this is more than a John Madden comment. The Cubs have the second best batting average in the MLB, the sixth best on base percentage and the 12th best slugging percentage. Chicago leaves all those runners on base and has just scored the 23rd most (or eighth fewest) runs.
Chicago also has one of the worst pitching staffs. The Cubs have to slink under their benches when they realize they have the third worst ERA, the least quality starts, the third worst WHIP, and the fallowed the opposition to post the fifth best batting average.
There are some bright spots despite the sub-.500 record. Rookie second baseman Darwin Barney is hitting .345 with a .370 OBP and .423 slugging percentage. It appears the Cubs finally have an answer at second 14 years after the retirement of Ryne Sandberg (who did not get the job as manager). Second year shortstop Starlin Castro continues to develop, hitting .331 with a .359 OBP and .436 slugging percentage. This pair could be the lone starters to survive a midseason fire sale. Oh, and do not forget about Alfonso Soriano. He has hit 11 homeruns, second most in the National League.
Unfortunately, there is not much to say about the pitching staff. Closer Carlos Marmol is the lone bright spot. He has eight saves with a 1.53 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 12.23 K/9. The starters are not giving him many chances (as well as the lack of finishing the job on offense) to earn many more saves. Alas, fans should still head to Cubs tickets to Wrigley Field to catch some great games this summer at a venue with a great baseball vibe.

At first the fans were happy to have the goat grazing in the stands, but once it began to rain the same fans complained of the smell and Sianis and his goat were ejected. To this day the Cubs faithful believe Sianis's curse that the team will not return to the World Series while playing at Wrigley Field is the reason they hang their heads low every fall. The Cubs have won the NL Central three times since 2000, but have failed to advance beyond the NLCS. In fact the last two playoff appearances have been marred by series sweeps in the NLDS. The 2003 postseason show great promise, but the "Steve Bartman incident" preceded a melt down in the eighth inning of Game 6 of the NLCS with the Florida Marlins. The Cubs were leading 3-0 in the game and 3-2 in the series, but the Marlins put an 8 on the board that inning and took the next game, leaving the Cubs deflated and forcing Bartman to leave the Chicago for his own safety.
