2012 MLB Playoffs
Leading up to the 2009 MLB Playoffs the 2009 baseball season ended with the New York Yankees catching fire in the second half of the season and blowing the Boston Red Sox away within a couple of weeks of the All Star game. The Detroit Tigers held off minor runs by the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins, until the end of the season when they collapsed and allowed the Minnesota Twins to win the AL Central after a one-game playoff following the end of the regular season. The Los Angeles Angels coasted to victory in the AL West after holding off the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners in the first half of the season.
The National League found the returning World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies having early season issues with the New York Mets, but eventually let the Mets fall apart. The Chicago Cubs were supposed to take the NL Central, but instead struggled to play .500 baseball all summer long. The St. Louis Cardinals emerged from the division with strong pitching that could not be matched. They earned MLB Playoff tickets for fans after many thought this would be a rebuilding season. The Los Angeles Dodgers got out to a huge lead in the NL West despite the suspension of Manny Ramirez. Eventually the team began to play without passion and an incredible season by the Colorado Rockies almost ended in one of the worst pennant collapses of all time. Instead, The Dodgers took the division and the Rockies took the Wild Card.
The first round of the playoffs went by pretty quickly. The Los Angeles Angels swept the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees swept the Minnesota Twins, the Los Angeles Dodgers swept the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Philadelphia Phillies took for games to beat the Rockies. Those losing teams barely had time for their fans to purchase baseball playoff tickets before resigning themselves to watch football.
The league championship series should be a little more competitive. The Yankees and Angels finished with the two best records in the American League. The Phillies finished strong over the last month of the season and the Dodgers woke up just in time to realize they were playing in the postseason. MLB playoff tickets for these series could be seats to a classic with all four teams being unquestioningly qualified to be here.

The New York Yankees have found that Yankee magic. They have that sense that they are destined to get back to the World Series. This team finished with the best record in all of baseball at 103-59 and already swept the Minnesota Twins in the ALDS. This team has the hitting and the pitching to compete with any team. Derek Jeter is once again the unquestioned leader (and maybe even the best player again) and CC Sabathia is pitching like a mad man driven to the ends of the earth.
