Founded in 1943, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra is regarded as one of the best examples of a honorable Russian cultural tradition. MSSO is beautiful combination of emotional, classical traditional music and fresh energetic contemporary music. Lev Steinberg became the first conductor of the new orchestra. He kept the orchestra at the highest standards of performance from its very beginning. He has taken the MSSO at the heights of fame and honor. Followed by him, many other master conductors led the MSSO to further heights. The names include Nikolai Anosov, Leo Ginzburg and Veronika Dudarova. MSSO rehearsed not only fundamental world classical music in its repertoire but also gave a platform to contemporary skills and compositions. Because of unforgettable support of highly honored stellar teachers, MSSO became a world class ensemble with time.
The current conductor, Pavel Kogan is an unmatched personality in his own aura. He is a distinguished artist who was grown up under the guidance of brilliant teachers all his life. Giving his debut at age of 12, he carried on with his amazing abilities of learning. He has been a gifted child of his father, Leonid Kogan, and mother, Elizaveta Gilels, both outstanding violinists of our time. Kogan undertook his musical education from his teacher Leo Ginzburg, fortunately who was one of the founding fathers of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. In May 1989, Pavel Kogan was appointed as the head of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. MSSO has attained enormous success and glory under direction of Leonid Kogan.

The musical repertoire and creativity of MSSO was highly influenced by Pavel Kogan's ability to put his soul in work, to attain his aims, his talent along with his arrant knowledge of the nature of string instruments. One of the important step taken by Pavel was to include the Western Classics in the concerts and program. The insight of Pavel was to bring creativity and novelty with discipline and determination in the team. MSSO is famous worldwide because of highly acclaimed series of classics by Schumann, Schubert, Bruckner, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms,, Rakhmaninov, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, all Mahler symphonies and vocal cycles. In 1977 Pavel Kogan was honored with the National Prize of the Russian Federation for full cycle of all Gustav Mahler's Symphonies and the Vocal Cycles. He was accepted as a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts same year.
The extensive touring worldwide has placed the MSSO in a highly acclaimed and honored category. It has received highly favorable and enthusiastic response with great recognition from the British Isles to Hong Kong, Japan and Australia. Under The leadership of Pavel Kogan, MSSO has performed at many venues in Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria including many festivals like The Corinthian Summer Festival. MSSO has been credited as a regular performer in Russian festivals like Moscow Stars and the Russian Winter Festival in Moscow, and the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg. The 2001-2002 season has been proved to be one the trademark tour with 18 concerts in the most esteemed concert halls and became an unforgettable event in the cultural life of the U.S. Additionally MSSO has attained tremendous success till date with its superb performance and music. MSSO is adorned with over 20 merited artists, national artists and laureates of international competitions to daze the crowd. It has made its every concert memorable by perfect performance with a great line up virtuoso team.
