Glam Metal would be nothing without the efforts of Motley Crue. This was more than just a dysfunctional group of adults bent on having fun with groupies and trashing hotel rooms. It all began with Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee. The bassist and drummer recruited lead guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil and 1980 Motley Crue had been formed.

It all started with Too Fast for Love, a platinum debut album and continued with Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain, and Girls, Girls, Girls. Each studio album went multiplatinum. The group reached the epoch of its career in 1989 with the six-time platinum Dr. Feelgood. The album became their first and only number one album. The 1980s ended with the group on the decline. However, songs like "Smokin' in the Boys Room", "Without You", and many others live on thanks to rotation on classic rock radio stations. Motley Crew ended the decade with highly public controversies revolving around drugs, women, and clashes with the law.

The 1990s and early 21st century were a period of struggle for the group. John Corabi replaced Vince Neil as lead singer for five years from 1992 to 1997. Randy Castillo and Samantha Maloney replaced Tommy Lee as drummer from 2000 to 2004. Eventually the original four reunited and the millions of glam rock fans who had worshipped the band rejoiced as they recognized there would come a time when Motley Crew tickets would be available again.
