The group had originally gone by the name Hell's Half Acre and stumbled on the name Nashville Pussy by accident. The name comes from a Ted Nugent number called 'Wang Dang Sweet Pootang' which Cartwright often played when he was younger. The idea to name the band Nashville Pussy started as a joke but the more the members thought about it, the more they realized the name actually fit the band pretty well.
Nashville Pussy pride themselves as being more of an underground rock band, thriving on their immense fan following and being an active member of the underground music scene. The band also has a taper-friendly policy for their concerts, not unlike the legendary Grateful Dead.
