New Orleans Hornets Tickets
The New Orleans Hornets are entering the 2012 NBA season at the New Orleans Arena in a situation far worse than being stuck between a clichéd rock and a hard place. Hornets tickets are being sold for a franchise on the verge of implosion. They will not be retaining Chris Paul's services next season and this season the basketball team will not be enjoying a superstar willing to lend his services to the fullest extent whilst on the court. The NBA, the collective owner of the flailing franchise, had put General Manager Dell Damps in place to take care of the team as they search for an owner. He had reached a three-team deal with Los Angeles and Houston that would send the star to the Lakers in exchange for Lamar Odom, Kevin Martin, a few more pieces, and a couple of draft picks. Then David Stern went ahead and vetoes the trade. a second deal begins to emerge with the Lakers little brother, the Clippers, entered the Paul trade discussion. The deal fell through and the Hornets are left with an expiring contract and a roster lacking a full complement of NBA-ready players. The depth chart is especially troubling in the front court. Emka Okafor is a serviceable, albeit overpaid, center. Brian Butch and DaJuan Summers are the only current opens at power forward. At small forward, the Hornets have to choose between Quincy Pondexter, Patrick Ewing Jr., and rookie Lance Thomas. None of those players has much experience. The backcourt has won major piece in the backcourt, the previously mentioned Chris Paul. At shooting guard Trevor Ariza, Marco Belinelli, Terrico White, and Trey Johnson will be competing got the starting spot. Jarrett Jack and Justin Dentmon will be backing Paul up or replacing him if Paul is actually traded. The rumors are that Stern will not allow any trade for Chris Paul. The possible reasons vary. Perhaps the NBA does not want to make the Hornets a less attractive basketball team to purchase. The Grizzlies traded Pau Gasol back in the day with the intention of making the team a more attractive asset from a financial perspective. The plan backfired because the club, now void of a talent, proved less attractive. The other running theory is that the small market teams are holding Paul ransom, angry that the superstars still prefer bigger markets. Either way, it appears Chris Paul is going to be sulking in the backcourt and the Hornets are going to miss the playoffs.

New Orleans Hornets History
|
Way back in the 1980s the NBA proved so popular that Stern decided to add a few franchises. One of those franchises was located in North Carolina, a hotbed of college basketball. Named the Hornets, the team took the court in 1988. The expansion team struggled, as most new franchises typically do, but the addition of Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson made them a contender at the beginning of the 1990s. Unable to advance deep into the postseason, the Hornets allowed Johnson and Mourning to leave and built a team around Glen Rice and Baron Davis. Rice and Davis again became a playoff contender. Eventually the Hornets moved to New Orleans for the 2002 NBA season. Chris Paul became the new focus of the franchise and the future looked significantly brighter. After Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city of New Orleans in 2005, the Hornets took refuge in Oklahoma City for two seasons. Though they did not reach the postseason, a buzz was in the air. Soon, Paul had matured into the best point guard in the league and the best with the basketball in the final minutes of the game. He made players like David West into All Stars and turned the Hornets into a postseason contender. This lasted for a couple seasons before injuries and a change in ownership sapped all the energy out of the franchise.
