The Minnesota Timberwolves collected forward Anthony Randolph, center Eddy Curry’s expiring contract, and $3 million for facilitating the salary cap clearance of the trade.

 This means Mike D’Antoni will have two stars in the front court in Stoudemire and Carmelo and a very good point guard in Chauncey Billups. The team may lack any real depth, but the starting lineup, assuming the Knicks are unable to find that center they want before the trade deadline, will be Ronny Turiaf, Stoudemire, and Anthony in the front court and Landry Fields and Billups in the backcourt. This leaves the Knicks with no depth up front and just enough to remain respectful in the backcourt. New York will more than likely be in the playoffs come this spring and they could even play the role of first round spoilers. This team will likely be much more dangerous, true title contenders in a couple of years, assuming GM Donnie Walsh learns how to navigate under a hard cap. Then Knicks tickets will be much more than just a chance to see a team emerging from the disastrous Thomas tenure. Then they will be NBA tickets to see a real title contender.
