Cousins has some young company close to the rim. J.J. Hickson is a steal and Chuck Hayes is a welcome addition to the front court. Few Kings fans are excited by the prospect of starting John Salmons at small forward. Salmons always seems like a good idea to small market teams. He quickly makes it apparent that he is not the answer. He is not a poor man's anything. Donte Greene, rookie Tyler Honeycutt, and Francisco Garcia will be given an opportunity to steal the starting spot. Overall, this is a very young and exciting basketball team. They have the chance to shock quite a few teams with this roster. The biggest is whether or not General Manager Geofe Petrie dealt head coach Paul Westphal a bad hand in drafting Fredette. Fredette is considered a below average athlete at the point guard position. Yet, he is the likely starter. He may be able to learn a few tricks to the trade, like J.J. Reddick. The 2012 season at the Power Balance Arena is a chance to see this young team learn to play together as a cohesive unit.

|
 The Sacramento Kings began playing professional basketball back in 1945 as the Rochester Royals. Then they played in the NBL, the precursor to the NBA, which they joined in 1948. These early teams were quite competitive. The Royals even won the NBA Finals in 1951, defeating the Knicks 4 games to 3. The Royals moved to Cincinnati and contended thanks to the play of players like Maurice Stokes, Jack Twyman, and Jerry Lucas. The Royals franchise was in decline and moved out West in hopes of starting over. The first major change came with the move to Kansas City in 1972. The team changed its name to the Kings to avoid confusion with the baseball team. For more than 20 seasons the basketball team struggled despite boasting talent like Tom Van Arsdale, Nate Archibald, and Matt Guokas. In 1985, the Kings moved to Sacramento, where tragedy plagued the team early on. Point guard Bobby Hurley had his career shortened after a car accident and Ricky Berry killed himself. Eventually the Kings were purchased by the Maloof Family and began to build a winner. Jason Williams, Vlade Divac, and Peja Stojakovic instituted a Princeton-style offense under the tutelage of assistant coach Pete Carril and offensive-minded Rick Adelman. The team became real contenders after trading Corlisss Williamson to the Raptors for Doug Christie, adding Chris Webber, and exchanging Williams for Mike Bibby. From 2000 to 2006 the Kings were a playoff team. They finished a poorly officiated game away from reaching the 2002 NBA Finals. All good things come to an end, and Sacramento's end came in the 2006-2007 season. The Kings traded away its assets. Eventually Sacramento regained some control over its future and built through the draft. They are now ready to take the Pacific Division with Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins.
