The San Antonio Spurs tickets in 2012 are basketball tickets to the AT&T Center to see an aging roster that continues to defy the odds and remain contenders in the Western Conference. They are able to do this because they are a team with a coach in Gregg Popovich who recognizes the futility in fighting change. Also the team realized the move toward a faster and more perimeter oriented game would alter the defensive efficiency. These changes resulted in a 61-win season.

General Manager R.C. Buford's task, engineering a graceful transition from a Tim Duncan team to a Tony Parker team, was made all the more difficult by the NBA Lockout. Not only did the lockout waste precious time he could have utilized to complete a few clever, understated trades, but the lockout shortened the season. This will test the older roster's legs and gives the San Antonio Spurs one less season to play near the pique of their potential because it gives Duncan a far more difficult year to endure.

The Spurs roster has added a few young legs though. Rookie Kawhi Leonard, the 15th pick in the 2011 NBA draft, is penciled as the starting small forward. Corey Joseph, the late first round pick, is slated to play junk minutes at point guard. San Antonio resigned little-used Gani Lawal to a second season. The addition of T.J. Ford does not make the Spurs any younger, but it does provide a quality backup point guard in his late 20s.

Finally, the Spurs are a team with veterans still able to offer something. Chief among those are Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. The center and shooting guard have been effective through their career, but the years of punishment these basketball players have finally taken their toll. Similarly, Antonio McDyess is on his last legs, but he can offer 15-20 minutes of solid play a game. The replacements, as they appear now, are Tiago Splitter and DeJuan Blair. Splitter finally came over from Europe and Blair has been terrific in a limited role with limited minutes. The 2012 NBA season schedule will be interesting with an aging team and a shortened, hastily played season.
