Washington Wizards Tickets
The Washington Wizards enter the 2011-2012 NBA season with few plans to overhaul the roster for the shortened schedule. Those with Washington Wizards tickets will not be enjoying a Rashard Lewis-free zone at the Verizon Center. They will be enjoying the second season of John Wall's ascent. They will also be watching a roster with three rookies. Really one of the only questions is who must the Wizards front office sign to fill out the depth chart and reach the league minimum. The major project is the resigning of offensive machine Nick Young. They are looking to pair Wall and Young with one more season of Lewis, Andray Blatche, and JaVale McGee in the front court. Shelvin Mack and Jordan Crawford are manning the bench for the backcourt. Rookies Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton will have a chance to play in the rotation. Sadly Trevor Booker is the backup center. The other question on the tip of those Wizards fans tongues is just how good can Wall be this season (he already has a rap group doing the John Wall dance)? Wall began his rookie season with a bang but ended the season with smoke dissipating from a faulty fuse. He also became one of the many injury victims at the Phone Booth. Obviously, he should return healthy, but he also seems susceptible to the dreaded sophomore slump. Adding another lottery pick to a rebuilding roster is hardly a tragedy, but the fans would prefer to see winning now more than coveting winning in some unknown future. Yet, an extended offseason may have been the best situation for Wall. The assumption is he spent all summer and fall working on his outside shot. He may not have a consistent three point shot, but even a decent 15-foot shot off the dribble would make him infinitely more difficult to guard. A good model for him to follow is that of Derrick Rose. Rose came into the league with absurd athleticism but a limited range. The first offseason he developed a midrange game. The second offseason he worked on his three point shot. Though he is hardly a sharpshooter, Rose won the MVP last season and could become even more impossible to guard once he refines that outside shot. Wall is a quicker version of Rose and could easily embark upon a similar path.

Washington Wizards History
|
While modern professional sports franchises rarely find new homes in different cities and remain dedicated to keeping the same name, teams of yesteryear were renowned for their tendency to move and find rebirth with a new name. The Washington Wizards are one of those older franchises. The team began as the Chicago Packers in 1961, became the Zephyrs in 1962, moved to Baltimore and renamed itself the Bullets in 1963, moved to Washington and went by the Capital Bullets in 1973, finally embraced the city and settled on the Washington Bullets in 1974, and took advantage of PR and became the Wizards in 1997. This is quite a list of changes to just the name. Of course, the professional basketball team has had hundreds of players grace the floor donning the uniform. Greats like Earl Monroe, Wes Unseld, Gus Johnson, Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone, and Bernard King have taken the floor as Bullets/Wizards. Despite this impressive list of players, the Washington Wizards have only one NBA championship. That championship came in 1978. The Bullets led the Atlantic Division with a 54-28 record and were led by Elvin Hayes, an All-NBA First Team power forward, center Wes Unseld, and the defensive effort of guard/forward Bobby Dandridge. They dispatched the Atlanta Hawks with ease in the first round and took six games in the Conference Semifinals and Finals to beat the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers. They advanced to the NBA Finals to meet the Seattle Supersonics, taking seven games to acquire the championship trophy. The Washington Bullets returned to the NBA Finals the next season in a rematch with the Sonics. This time Seattle won handedly. The franchise has yet to return to the finals and they hope, as the Wizards, they have the superstar in John Wall necessary to dominate the Southeast Division and the Eastern Conference for some time. OnlineSeats has the Wizards tickets to the Verizon Center to see if these basketball hopes and dreams can come true.
