The Neon Trees owes its initial signing with Mercury Records to the acquaintance between the Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and bassist Brandon Campbell. The two previously played together in a Ska band (Attaboy Skip), so Vannucci checked out the band's set one night. Impressed with the set, Vannucci he opened the doors to the major label signing in 2008. For years the group had become a fixture in the Provo and Salt Lake City rock circuit. They broke out with the release of the debut major label album and the use of its songs for a Las Vegas commercial. The cover of Justin Bieber's "Baby," a YoutTube hit, helped as well.
