Formed in 1997 in Vancouver 'The New Pornographers' are basically Canadian indie rock group. Their songs mostly have greater melodic and harmonic complexity but the influence of power pop bands such as 'The Cars and Cheap Trick' cannot be denied. Carl Newman,who writes the band's material admits to being influenced by Burt Bacharach, Jim Webb, and Brian Wilson.'Mass Romantic' their debut album and 2003's 'Electric Version' got critical acclaim. Newman's 2004 solo debut 'The Slow Wonder' also added to the popularity of the band.
