The main complaint is the Falcons lack of a go-to guy on third down, short and longs. Go-to guys tend to be discussed with regards to basketball but not football. The lacking is a commentary on quarterback Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, and Roddy White. Despite impressive numbers, much like the team, this Atlanta team and its players are plagued by doubts from those sitting in the Georgia Dome and those watching from their living room. A few seasons ago the Falcons were in doubt because of their defense; again a statistically impressive unit that people felt lacked a championship quality. While that doubt may not have been warranted in the past, this time it may. Matt Ryan posted a respectable 92.2 QB Rating but he is not known for his ability to make plays or win games in the final two minutes. The criticism of Michael Turner is, without a doubt, unwarranted. He has been battling the reputation as a running back overachieving since he signed with the Falcons. Turner averaged 4.5 yards a carry and scored 11 touchdowns, rarely fumbling. If he can get going then Atlanta can win just about any football game. With regard to the defense, the Falcons are a ball hawking unit that excels in stopping the run. They are suspect against the pass, but so is every "bend but not break" defense in history. They tighten up in the red zone, but their first round appointment with the Giants at the MetLife Stadium on January 8, 2012 is a date with a team that can score easily from 40-yards out.

 The Atlanta Falcons are a team decidedly bent on proving themselves in the playoffs in 2012. They have not won a playoff game since 2004, two years before Matt Ryan first took a snap behind center in the NFL. The team comes to the postseason with all the same concerns as last, but hopes for a different outcome than that 48-21 drubbing by the Green Bay Packers. The Falcons began by defeating the 49ers 20-18 at the Georgia Dome in the Divisional playoffs and then took out the favorite Minnesota Vikings 30-27 in overtime on the road in the NFC Championship. Unfortunately for Falcons fans, Atlanta could not keep the Cinderella story going, as they lost 34-19 to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl XXXIII.
