Arizona Cardinals 2012 Playoffs

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are the oldest professional football franchise and the most success starved. The Cardinals last on an NFL Championship when they were in Chicago in 1947. Since then the team has slowly moved southwest and has become the destination for old stars looking of a place to finish their career when their original team has decided they can no longer afford to play them. Cardinal playoff tickets are almost unheard of and have become more of a legend than an expectation.

The last time the Cardinals made the playoffs was in 1998 after finishing 9-7 and winning the wild card after finishing second in the NFC East. The Cardinals would surprise the Dallas Cowboys, but be blown out by the Minnesota Vikings in the next round. It was the first time fans had a chance to buy Cardinals playoff tickets in 17 years and with Jake “The Snake” Plummer it was hoped that it would be the first of many in a renewal of fortune.

A decade later it has become obvious that Jake Plummer, running back Adrian Murrell, and wide receiver Frank Sanders were no the answer. The NFC West is wide open this season so the Cardinals have been mentioned as potential favorite for the poor division. The Rams should be more worried about finishing in last place than near the top of the division, the 49ers are in much the same position, and the Seahawks have problems at the running back position. The Cardinals may simply win the division and playoff tickets by default.

Arizona Cardinals Arizona Cardinals Background

The Arizona Cardinals won the NFC West with a 10-6 record. The Cardinals offense has not been nearly as dangerous as it was last season. Perhaps Kurt Warner is finally starting to show his age or perhaps the rest of the league figured out how to disrupt the passing game.

Warner has two great receivers in Anquan Bolden and Larry Fitzgerald and another quality guy in Steve Breaston. This group in the passing game is dangerous even if the stats say they are not. Fitzgerald and Boldin are almost unable to be covered with a single defender. This has to mean something and the offense has to take advantage of defenses that have to use schemes to stop these guys. Beanie Wells has been running the ball better of late, so perhaps this team could surprise like last season.

The defense is once again something to worry about for this team. Then again this is the same story as last season. The team is alright against the pass, but struggles against the run. The Cardinals playoff tickets could only be available for one round of play if this unit does not toughen, especially against this field of explosive NFC offenses.
