Indianapolis Colts 2012 Playoffs

The Indianapolis Colts come into Week 17 with a one game lead in the AFC South and needing one more game to secure a spot in the 2011 NFL playoffs. Luckily, it looks like Colts playoff tickets will be available simply because Peyton Manning refuses to miss the postseason for the first time since the 2001 football season. Only this time, they will only get a single home game at Lucas Oil Stadium thanks to capturing a division title.
Indianapolis comes into Week 17 9-6 with the final game of the season at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Tennessee Titans. The Colts need this win to put away the pesky Jacksonville Jaguars and post a decent 10-win season in the NFL in 2010-2011.
Manning comes into this game and potentially the playoffs with the best passing offense in the NFL at 290.1 yards a game and the third worst running game with 92.1 yards a game. Despite the complete lack of a running game and a terrible offensive line, the Colts average 27.5 points a game, with much thanks to Manning’s ability to find the open man and pick up the coverage before the snap.
The Colts have suffered through Manning’s sudden rash of interceptions (for him at least) and the equally destructive rash of injuries to the wide receivers. Manning’s numbers this season are 4,436 passing yards, a 66.3 completion percentage, 7 yards a throw, 31 touchdowns, 17 interceptions, and a 91.4 quarterback rating. Peyton does not have the luxury of claiming most of those interceptions came at the beginning of the season. He threw interceptions over a three-game period from Week 11 to Week 13. Since Week 14 he has 7 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions.
Indianapolis Colts Background
Despite the injuries to the receiving corps, Reggie Wayne once again has pro bowl numbers. He has 102 receptions for 1,287 yards, but only 5 touchdowns. Pierre Garcon has been a disappointment, as has the inconsistent Austin Collie. The season-ending injury to tight end Dallas Clark did not help either. Manning has been busy molding wide receiver Blair White (32 receptions, 304 yards, 5 touchdowns) and tight end Jacob Tamme (60 receptions, 564 yards, 4 touchdowns) into acceptable replacements.
As always, the Colts have not been able to run the football. Running back Joseph Addai missed most of the season with an injury and running back Donald Brown has not been the explosive, all-world back Colts fans so desperately wanted. The newest hope for the future is Dominic Rhodes. Rhodes, a nine-year veteran, outran in Week 16. The answer is simply that the Colts do not have a clear option to carry the ball out of the backfield.
The Colts defense allowed 24.5 points (23rd), 209.5 rushing yards (12th), and 132.1 passing yards (27th) a game. Arguably the best defensive player has been Safety Antoine Bethea. Bethea has 102 tackles, half a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble. Defensive end Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney have been wreaking havoc upon quarterbacks, notching 11 and 9 sacks respectively. This defense can still show up sometimes, but they will need to show up to move the Colts forward on a long road to the Super Bowl.
